Jesus Prays for You(Hebrews 7:23-28)

(히 7:23) 제사장 된 그들의 수효가 많은 것은 죽음으로 말미암아 항상 있지 못함이로되//And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

(히 7:24) 예수는 영원히 계시므로 그 제사장 직분도 갈리지 아니하느니라//But this {man}, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

(히 7:25) 그러므로 자기를 힘입어 하나님께 나아가는 자들을 온전히 구원하실 수 있으니 이는 그가 항상 살아 계셔서 그들을 위하여 간구하심이라//Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

(히 7:26) 이러한 대제사장은 우리에게 합당하니 거룩하고 악이 없고 더러움이 없고 죄인에게서 떠나 계시고 하늘보다 높이 되신 이라//For such an high priest became us, {who is} holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

(히 7:27) 그는 저 대제사장들이 먼저 자기 죄를 위하고 다음에 백성의 죄를 위하여 날마다 제사 드리는 것과 같이 할 필요가 없으니 이는 그가 단번에 자기를 드려 이루셨음이라//Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

(히 7:28) 율법은 약점을 가진 사람들을 제사장으로 세웠거니와 율법 후에 하신 맹세의 말씀은 영원히 온전하게 되신 아들을 세우셨느니라//For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, {maketh} the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

(요절: 히브리서 7:25) 그러므로 자기를 힘입어 하나님께 나아가는 자들을 온전히 구원하실 수 있으니 이는 그가 항상 살아 계셔서 그들을 위하여 간구하심이라//[Jesus] is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.[Hebrews 7:25]

“I said a prayer for you today.” A friend sent me that text message during an especially difficult season. I read the words several times, letting them sink in. Someone was talking to God about me and my needs. Knowing I was prayed for gave me a renewed sense of courage and hope.

“오늘 당신을 위해 기도했어요.” 유난히 힘든 시기를 보내고 있을 때 한 친구가 이런 문자 메시지를 보내왔다. 나는 그 말을 여러 번 읽으며 그 의미를 마음속 깊이 새겼다. 누군가가 하나님께 나와 나에게 필요한 것들을 위해 기도하고 있다는 사실이 마음에 와닿았다. 누군가 나를 위해 기도하고 있다는 사실을 알게 되자 새로운 용기와 소망이 생겼다.

Scripture tells of someone who’s constantly praying for us – Jesus Himself. The author of Hebrews describes how in the old covenant between God and Israel, priests acted as the people’s representatives before God by offering sacrifices for their sins. First, however, they had to offer sacrifices for their own sins, “day after day” (Hebrews 7:27). Because of their human weakness and mortality, their priestly work was never finished.

성경은 우리를 위해 끊임없이 기도하시는 분이 계신다고 말씀한다. 바로 예수님이시다. 히브리서 기자는 하나님과 이스라엘 사이에 맺어진 옛 언약 아래에서 제사장들이 백성의 죄를 속하기 위해 제사를 드림으로써 하나님 앞에서 백성을 대표하는 역할을 했다고 설명한다. 그러나 제사장들은 먼저 자신의 죄를 위해 “날마다”(히브리서 7:27) 제사를 드려야 했다. 그들 역시 연약하고 죽을 수밖에 없는 인간이었기 때문에 제사장으로서의 사역은 결코 끝날 수 없었다.

But when Jesus came, He became the perfect high priest – the “one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners” (v. 26). He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin “once for all” (v. 27). And unlike the former priests, Jesus “lives forever” (v. 24). His priestly work continues eternally, which means “he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them” (v. 25).

그러나 예수님께서 오셔서 완전한 대제사장이 되셨다. 그분은 “거룩하고 악이 없고 더러움이 없고 죄인에게서 떠나 계시고”(26절) 하신 분이다. 예수님께서는 죄를 위한 완전한 제물로 자신을 “단번에”(27절) 드리셨다. 또한 이전의 제사장들과 달리 예수님께서는 “영원히 계시므로”(24절) 그분의 제사장 직분은 영원히 계속된다. 그러므로 “그가 항상 살아 계셔서 그들을 위하여 간구하심이라 이로 말미암아 자기를 힘입어 하나님께 나아가는 자들을 온전히 구원하실 수 있으니라”(25절)라고 말씀한다.

The book of Hebrews points to the supremacy of Jesus over angels (1:5–2:18), over Moses (3:1–4:13), and over the priesthood (4:14–7:28). In chapter 7, the writer compares Christ’s priesthood with the priestly order of Melchizedek, the mysterious “priest of God Most High” (v. 1; see Genesis 14:18-20). Jesus’ priesthood, like Melchizedek’s, was “on the basis of the power of an indestructible life” (Hebrews 7:16). The Levitical priests served until death, but because Christ “lives forever” (v. 24), His intercession for His people never ends. Today, we can draw near to God with confidence because Jesus, our perfect high priest, is praying for us.

히브리서는 예수님께서 천사들보다(1:5–2:18), 모세보다(3:1–4:13), 그리고 제사장 직분보다(4:14–7:28) 뛰어나신 분임을 보여 준다. 7장에서 히브리서 기자는 그리스도의 제사장 직분을 신비로운 인물인 “지극히 높으신 하나님의 제사장”(1절; 창세기 14:18-20 참조) 멜기세덱의 제사장 직분과 비교한다. 예수님의 제사장 직분은 멜기세덱의 경우와 마찬가지로 “불멸의 생명의 능력을 따라”(히브리서 7:16) 세워진 것이다. 레위 계통의 제사장들은 죽을 때까지만 직분을 수행할 수 있었지만, 그리스도께서는 “영원히 계시므로”(24절) 자기 백성을 위한 그분의 중보기도는 결코 끝나지 않는다. 오늘날 우리는 완전한 대제사장이신 예수님께서 우리를 위해 기도하고 계시기 때문에 확신을 가지고 하나님께 가까이 나아갈 수 있다.
