THE BATTLE IS GOD’S(2 CHRONICLES 20:14-19)

(대하 20:14) 여호와의 영이 회중 가운데에서 레위 사람 야하시엘에게 임하셨으니 그는 아삽 자손 맛다냐의 현손이요 여이엘의 증손이요 브나야의 손자요 스가랴의 아들이더라//Then upon Jahaziel the son Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;

(대하 20:15) 야하시엘이 이르되 온 유다와 예루살렘 주민과 여호사밧 왕이여 들을지어다 여호와께서 이같이 너희에게 말씀하시기를 너희는 이 큰 무리로 말미암아 두려워하거나 놀라지 말라 이 전쟁은 너희에게 속한 것이 아니요 하나님께 속한 것이니라//And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle {is} not yours, but God’s.

(대하 20:16) 내일 너희는 그들에게로 내려가라 그들이 시스 고개로 올라올 때에 너희가 골짜기 어귀 여루엘 들 앞에서 그들을 만나려니와//To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

(대하 20:17) 이 전쟁에는 너희가 싸울 것이 없나니 대열을 이루고 서서 너희와 함께 한 여호와가 구원하는 것을 보라 유다와 예루살렘아 너희는 두려워하지 말며 놀라지 말고 내일 그들을 맞서 나가라 여호와가 너희와 함께 하리라 하셨느니라 하매//Ye shall not {need} to fight in this {battle}: set yourselves, stand ye {still}, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord {will be} with you.

(대하 20:18) 여호사밧이 몸을 굽혀 얼굴을 땅에 대니 온 유다와 예루살렘 주민들도 여호와 앞에 엎드려 여호와께 경배하고//And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with {his} face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.

(대하 20:19) 그핫 자손과 고라 자손에게 속한 레위 사람들은 서서 심히 큰 소리로 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 찬송하니라//And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

(요절: 역대하 20:15) 두려워하거나 놀라지 말라 이 전쟁은 너희에게 속한 것이 아니요 하나님께 속한 것이니라//Do not be afraid or discouraged … . For the battle is not yours, but God’s. [2 CHRONICLES 20:15]

Though she enjoyed befriending and helping folks in her church’s seniors ministry, Carol found herself being picked on by its domineering leader. She felt so bothered by it that she had to seek counseling. She was advised to quit the ministry, but she didn’t want to “abandon” the seniors. Feeling caught in between, she prayed to God for guidance, and He gave her comfort and assurance as she submitted her fears to Him. He showed her that she should talk to the leader but trust Him to resolve the issue.

캐롤은 교회 시니어 사역에서 사람들을 사귀고 돕는 일을 좋아했지만, 강압적인 리더로부터 괴롭힘을 당하게 되었고, 너무 힘들어서 상담까지 받을 정도였다. 사역을 그만두라는 상담사의 조언이 있었지만, 캐롤은 노인들을 “떠나고” 싶지 않았다. 어찌할 바 몰라 하나님께 기도하며 그분께 두려움을 맡겼더니 평안과 확신을 주셨다. 그 리더에게 할 말을 하되 문제 해결은 하나님께 맡기라는 응답을 주셨던 것이다.

When King Jehoshaphat heard of a powerful enemy approaching Jerusalem, his first response was to pray. Appealing to God’s sovereignty, he said, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 CHRONICLES 20:12). Instead of relying on their own strength, the king and people of Judah submitted themselves and their troubles to God (V. 18).

여호사밧 왕은 강한 적군이 예루살렘에 다가온다는 소식을 듣고 가장 먼저 기도부터 했다. 그는 하나님의 주권에 호소하며 이렇게 기도 드렸다. 우리가 어떻게 할 줄도 알지 못하옵고 오직 주만 바라보나이다”(역대하 20:12). 유다 왕과 백성들은 스스로의 힘에 의지하기보다 그들과 그들의 어려움을 하나님께 맡겼다(18절).

God’s answer to the king and people through the prophet Jahaziel was heartening: “Do not be afraid or discouraged … . For the battle is not yours, but God’s” (V. 15). God commanded Judah to march out, but to trust Him with the result. They did so in faith, praising God as if the prayer was already answered (VV. 20-21) – and found the battle already won (V. 24).

하나님께서 선지자 야하시엘을 통해 왕과 백성에게 주신 응답은 든든했다. “두려워하거나 놀라지 말라 이 전쟁은 너희에게 속한 것이 아니요 하나님께 속한 것이니라”(15절). 하나님은 유다에게 진군하되 결과는 하나님께 맡기라고 명하신 것이다. 그들은 믿음으로 순종했고 마치 이미 응답받은 것처럼 하나님을 찬양했다(20-21절). 그렇게 하다보니 전투에서 승리해 있었다(24절).

Whenever we face difficult situations, let’s pray and look to God for help. We may not always see victory, but whatever happens, we need not be afraid, for the battle is His. LESLIE KOH

어려운 상황에 부딪힐 때마다 하나님께 기도로 도움을 청하자. 항상 승리하지 않을 수도 있지만 무슨 일이 일어나든 두려워할 필요가 없다. 전쟁은 하나님께 속한 것이기 때문이다.

Mighty God, as I rest in Your sovereign hands, please help me to trust in You, for the battle is Yours.//전능하신 하나님, 전쟁은 주께 속한 것이니 제가 주권자의 손 안에 거하며 하나님을 신뢰할 수 있도록 도와주소서. 무슨 일이 벌어지든 인간의 머리로 판단하지 않게 하소서. 주 하나님의 주권에 맡기고 다만 주를 의지하게 하소서. 이번 전쟁도 하나님께 속해 있으니 주를 의지하고 담대히 나아가게 하소서.

SCRIPTURE INSIGHT(성경 통찰)

The example of King Jehoshaphat is one that’s worthy of emulation. Not only does he go to God in prayer with his overwhelming concern, he also unhesitatingly trusts Him for the solution to the problem (2 Chronicles 20:5-12). This is wisdom indeed, for God said, “I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please’ ” (Isaiah 46:10). Regardless of what challenges we face today, the one who knows the end from the beginning can be trusted to provide the help we need.

여호사밧 왕의 모범은 본받을 만하다. 그는 감당하기 어려운 문제를 가지고 하나님께 나아가 기도했을 뿐 아니라, 그 문제의 해결을 위해 주저 없이 하나님을 신뢰했다(역대하 20:5-12). 이것이야말로 참된 지혜이다. 하나님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨기 때문이다. “내가 시초부터 종말을 알리며 아직 이루지 아니한 일을 옛적부터 보이고 이르기를 나의 뜻이 설 것이니 내가 나의 모든 기뻐하는 것을 이루리라 하였노라”(이사야 46:10). 오늘 우리가 어떤 어려움에 직면하더라도 처음부터 끝을 아시는 하나님께서 우리에게 필요한 도움을 베풀어 주실 것을 신뢰할 수 있다.
